The Burke Family
This group is comprised of a family of 10 siblings (yes, all brothers and sisters!) originally from New Waterford, Nova Scotia. Growing up in a small Cape Breton town with 4 brothers and 6 sisters meant that the Burke house was always filled with family...and music.
The siblings spent many a Saturday night harmonizing with each other to favourite songs while the guitars were passed around.
The family's love for inspirational music combined with their Christian upbringing, led them to begin singing together as a family. Since 1995, the group has been sharing their music with others. The Burke Family message is a celebration of family values, of faith, hope and love.
The group's first CD "Returning Home" was released in 2001 as a gift to their parents. The album was a combination of original songs, Celtic songs, and some of their favourite inspirational tunes. This CD was nominated for an ECMA award.
Their second CD entitled "A Burke Family Christmas" was released in 2003. This CD comprises original and traditional tunes, and depicts the family's feelings of hope, love and happiness throughout the Christmas season. This CD celebrates what the siblings feel is the true meaning of Christmas. This album went on to win an ECMA award for Gospel Group of the Year in 2004. It was also nominated for a National Vibe Award as well as a Music Industry of Nova Scotia Award in 2005.
The group recently released its third album "The Reason We Sing". This is a collection of some of the family's best loved inspirational songs and it has garnered the group its second ECMA Award for Gospel Album of the Year.
